VERO BEACH — A 21-year-old woman was arrested after deputies said she left two kids alone in a hot vehicle with a temperature of 99 degrees Fahrenheit, deputies said.

Anthonecia Nicole Teague, of the 2400 block of 15th Street Southwest, Vero Beach, was charged with two counts of child abuse. She is being held at the Indian River County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Deputies said they responded to the scene shortly before 4 p.m. July 1 in the 2900 block of 9th Street, Vero Beach. When they approached the vehicle, they saw all of the windows were lowered halfway.

They also saw a 3-year-old sitting in the passenger seat playing on a cell-phone and an infant, 3 months, crying and drenched in sweat in the back seat, deputies said. Deputies removed one of the minors from the vehicle when Teague walked out of the Magic Palace Arcade.

She told deputies she was only gone for a few minutes. But, an employee at the arcade told deputies Teague was inside playing games for about 30 minutes, deputies said.

Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and checked on the two kids. Teague said she didn’t want them transported to the hospital and that they were fine, deputies said.

A thermometer was put inside the vehicle for 20 minutes and showed the vehicle temperature was 99 degrees Fahrenheit, deputies said. Teague was arrested and send to the county jail for booking.

The relationship between Teague and the two kids was not available.
