Smart shopping tips for Valentine’s Day

(BPT) – When cupid shot his arrow, there was no turning back. You fell in love and that’s one of the best feelings in the world. It’s something that should be celebrated always, but of course there’s one day dedicated to honoring the power of love: Valentine’s Day.

Shopping for a gift that represents how deeply you love someone can be difficult. Wait until Valentine’s Day and you may find you’re scrambling for gifts at exorbitant prices. But don’t worry, these expert tips can help you find the perfect gift.

Plan ahead and get incentives

Don’t wait until Valentine’s Day to get your special someone something special. Not only will you eliminate the stress of the last-minute panic, but you can take advantage of a lot of special promotions from retailers.

According to the Society of American Florists (SAF), 44 percent of florists provided early-order incentives last year, which means there are plenty of reasons to act now. For example, 1-800-Flowers.com will be offering up to 40 percent off gifts if you order early.

Go classic with a twist

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, you can’t go wrong with red roses. However, if you want a twist on the traditional, there are many other floral options to consider. Think outside the box and broaden the bouquet to include amaryllis, chrysanthemums and lilies.

For example, the Modern Love bouquet has plenty of “wow factor” with four hand-tied bouquets of red roses, pink lilies, hot pink carnations and purple alstroemeria. Another option to leave her speechless is the Dazzling Romance Rose Bouquet, featuring 50 roses in striking shades of red, pink and lavender.

Surprise loved ones early

The hottest trend in Valentine’s gifting is sending gifts early or even on multiple days leading up to the big day. She’s sure to blush when she’s the first one in the office to receive flowers!

SAF found 78 percent of orders came in before Feb. 14. So why limit the holiday to just one day? Schedule the flowers to be delivered early. This will give the flowers time to really bloom, become super fragrant and she’ll be able to enjoy them at the peak of freshness on the actual holiday.

Go beyond blooms

Of course you can go beyond flowers and surprise her with gifts each morning the week leading up to Valentine’s Day. Maybe it’s a new cozy sweater, a coffee mug filled with treats or a DVD of that movie she’s really been wanting to see.

Finally, add a hand-written note or card to express how much she means to you. When your words come from your heart, it will show how much you truly care.
