5 recipes to become your own in-house barista

(BPT) – In the morning, you can’t go without the Joe. Coffee is more than a beverage to you — it’s your pick-me-up, your trusted morning partner, the foundation of a successful day.

Yeah, it’s that important.

The new Folgers Coffeehouse Blend offers a distinct taste that starts smooth and finishes bold. Now you can add anything to your coffee, and still taste the coffee. It’s designed to produce a unique coffee experience for those who prefer their coffee black, but also allows for great flavor to come through when cream, sugar and other flavors are added. Coffeehouse Blend is so versatile coffee lovers can make their own specialty coffee right at home. Let us show you how to make these five popular coffees and you can be your own barista in the morning.

1. Pour-Over Coffee

Let’s start with pour-over coffee. For this one you’ll need a number 2 filter, which is a specific filter for pour over coffee. Once you have your filter, fill a kettle with water and set it to boil. Next, place your paper filter into the pour over brewer/funnel and put that on top of your coffee mug. Fill it with three tablespoons of coffee and then, in a circular motion, slowly pour just enough hot water to get the grounds wet. This can be tricky at first so take your time. Once the coffee blooms, typically around a minute, add a little more water and let it filter till you have a full cup, remove the funnel and it’s yours to enjoy.

2. French Press Coffee

Alright, let’s step it up a notch and look at what you have to do to brew a delicious roast at home. To start, fill your four-cup French Press brewer with 6-7 tablespoons of Folgers Coffeehouse Blend ground coffee (depending on the desired strength). Next, add two cups of boiling water and allow the coffee to bloom for a minute. Then, get in there and stir, add another two cups of boiling water and cover with the French Press plunger. Now’s the hard part, you have to wait six minutes for your coffee but trust us, it’s worth it. Once the time’s up, press the plunger down slowly to the bottom and pour. C’est magnifique.

3. Cold Brew Coffee

When its warm outside or if you’re in the mood for a cooler coffee break any time of day, cold brew coffee delivers. Add one cup of ground coffee and five cups of cold water to your chosen vessel. Stir the grounds and refrigerate for 12-24 hours (typically, the extraction process plateaus around 15 hours of cold brewing). Then pour your cold brew coffee through a strainer or cheesecloth to clean out the grounds and enjoy. And if you don’t feel like going cold one morning, don’t worry, the cold coffee you create will last an entire week.

4. Iced coffee

Put a normal pot of coffee on ice by brewing as you normally would and then allowing it to cool. Once your coffee reaches room temperature, pour it into a pitcher and set it in the refrigerator. Then enjoy it on the rocks by pouring your favorite blend over a glass full of ice. Don’t forget the cream and sugar.

5. Auto-Drip Coffee

Last but certainly not least, let’s look at the tried and true auto-drip. Place a new filter in the coffee maker basket and add a tablespoon of ground coffee for each serving you need (remember to add more if today feels like a double). Then fill the reservoir with six ounces of cold water per serving, close the lid, put the pot underneath and turn it on. Get ready for your day and your coffee will be waiting when you come back.
