Runners all ‘fired up’ for 5K in Margo’s memory

More than 100 runners and walkers put their pink foot forward for the 5th annual Margo Donadio Memorial – Fire Girls 5K Run/Walk at South Beach Park early Saturday morning.

Tony Donadio and his sons started the run in wife Margo’s memory with help from the Fire Girls, firefighter wives and members of Indian River Fire Rescue, to fund the Pink-4-Life Mammogram Assistance Program, which provides vouchers for free mammograms to women living in Indian River County. Funds raised last year provided 38 wellness exams and 20 mammograms.

“We are hoping we can reach more people and prevent cancer through prevention, education and awareness. Women, make sure you get your exams on a regular basis. Don’t take anything for granted,” said Donadio to race participants.

“Margo Donadio touched many lives and helped those who had been diagnosed with cancer,” said race chair Melinda Johnson. “Her courage, strength and positive attitude to stay strong for others while battling her fight was amazing until the very end.”
