VERO BEACH — Youth Sailing Foundation (YSF) sailors scored a clean sweep at the recent 2016 Fall Regatta Small Boat Weekend hosted by the Melbourne Yacht Club.
Sailing on the Indian River Lagoon, Vero Beach High School Varsity Sailing Team members placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, sweeping the top honors at the two-day regatta.
Sailing 14-foot Club 420’s in a series of seven races, skipper Virginia Zedda and crew Holly Gandolfo placed first, skipper Brendan Williams and crew Bryan DeJesus Camacho placed second, and skipper Alden Findley and crew Clem Goffart placed third.
The Vero Beach High School Varsity Sailing Team is coached by YSF Sailing Director, Mary Morgan. Morgan is ably assisted by YSF volunteer and lifetime sailor Don Reeser. Dads Rich Findley and Donathan Williams provide support on the water in safety boats, and they accompanied the team to Melbourne with Coach Reeser.
Five weeks of three-hour practice sessions sailing out of YSF’s facility just south of the Vero Beach 17th Street Bridge prepared the team for a great start to the 2016-17 Sailing Season.
