Janice Crimmins Meager, 83, Vero Beach

Janice Crimmins Meagher, 83, of Vero Beach passed away Oct. 7, 2016.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Debbie and Jon Stanley of Mount Kisco, N.Y, Janice and Greg Trojan of Pasadena, Calif., and Jennifer and Kevin Convery of Western Springs, Ill.; grandchildren Nicholas and Christopher Stanley, Emily and Andrew Trojan, and Alex, Tyler and Charlie Convery; her sister Denise Clayton and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Bonnie and Raymond Meagher, Thomas Cawley and Richard Delaney.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Henry Meagher, and her sisters Kathy Cawley and Meredith Delaney.

Meagher was born on April 18, 1933, in New Rochelle, N.Y., to James and Irene Crimmins. She was a loving and devoted wife of 59 years to the recently deceased Henry Meagher and caring mother to Debbie Stanley, Janice Trojan and Jennifer Convery.

She graduated from Scarsdale High School and Smith College where she made many life-long friends. She played on the Smith tennis team and was an active alumna and fundraiser. She worked in New York City for several years following college and married Henry Meagher in 1956. They raised their three daughters in Hyde Park, N.Y.

Meagher was an outgoing, optimistic and caring person. She was a long time member of the Junior League, and served on the board of the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She was also an entrepreneur who taught tennis at their home in Hyde Park. In Vero Beach, she was active in the Big Sister Program, an Athena Society member of the Vero Beach Museum of Art, a sponsor of the Riverside Theater and an Eagle Society member of Indian River Medical Center. She was also a devout parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

She was an accomplished athlete who loved to play tennis, golf and ski and also enjoyed gardening, reading and playing bridge. Most importantly, Meagher always found the good in everyone. She had a strong spirit and a true zest for life. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Janice will be held at 12:30 a.m. on, Nov. 5, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach, followed by a reception at the John’s Island Beach Club.
