Carlos Capaz Lavado, 83, formerly of Sebastian passed away at Masonicare Health Center on Oct. 16, 2016.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years Sylvia (Haggerty); son David Lavado (Julie) of Wallingford; two daughters, Rosemarie Fleming (Joseph) of Pfafftown, N.C. and Susan Kunst (Erich) of Meriden; brother Manuel Lavado (Lidia) of Cromwell; six grandchildren, Jennifer Shew (Joseph), Allyson Wall (Richard), Robert Lavado (Sara), Stephanie Lavado- Berghorn (Kevin), Blake Kunst, and Garrison Kunst; three great-grandchildren Ella, Alexis, and Hudson, and one he was anxiously awaiting. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by a sister who died in infancy, Maria Capaz Querido.
Lavado was born in Mira De Aire, Portugal, the son of Costodio and Maria (Capaz) Lavado. He was a veteran of the US Army. He went on to work in the construction business as a Superintendent for Barr Construction, and VMS Construction.
In retirement he worked for Meriden Manufacturing and John’s Island Golf Course. In 2000 he bought his dream home in Sebastian where he became a member of St. Sebastian Church and a member of Sebastian Men’s Club.
Lavado was an avid golfer and a member of Hunter’s Golf Club. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and dancing with the love of his life. When his beloved Sylvia started to show early signs of Alzheimer’s Disease eight years ago, he took on the challenge of being her devoted caretaker, always putting her needs first.

A funeral service will be held on Oct. 20, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 9:30 to 11 a.m. just prior to the service.
