James Edgar Meeks, 73, of Vero Beach and Sylva passed away Sept. 26, 2016.
He is survived by his children, Tim Meeks of Sylva, Pam Meeks Ellis (David) of Asheville, and Corey Meeks (Deb) of Sylva; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Austin, Johnny and Lamar Meeks; sisters Betty Meeks Tomerlin and Lavelle Meeks Graham; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Dotson Meeks, his grandson Keith Daniel Meeks, and by brothers Charles Meeks, Ronald Meeks and Gerald Meeks.
The son of the late Alvin and Gustava Meeks, he is a native of Florida and had lived in Jackson County for almost 40 years. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping and was a member of Ochre Hill Baptist Church.
Service will be private.
Appalachian Funeral Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
