EVACUATIONS: Mandatory order for island, mobile homes issued

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for the following areas in Indian River County starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6:

  • Barrier island
  • Mobile/manufactured homes
  • Low-lying areas
  • Sub-standard housing

Out of an abundance of caution and with a shift in the track towards the west, a voluntary evacuation is suggested for all areas east of US 1 up to the Intracoastal Waterway starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.

If you live in an evacuation area, your best shelter choice is the home of a friend or relative who is located outside the evacuation area.

Your next alternative is to leave the area and stay in a hotel/motel.

Your last shelter option is to utilize one of the following public shelters, which will open at 8 a.m. Thursday:

  • Freshman Learning Center (General Population) 1507 19th Street, Vero Beach
  • Oslo Middle School (General Population) 480 20th Avenue SW, Vero Beach
