June M. Thumma, 93, of Vero Beach formerly of Millersville Pa., passed away at Grace Rehabilitation Center on Oct. 2, 2016.
She is survived by her daughter Connie Derman (Donald) of Vero Beach; Patricia Landwehr (James) of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and W. Scott Thumma (Diane) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and her three grandchildren: Bradley and Rebecca Thumma and Heidi Landwehr Kolby (Tyler).
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William E. Thumma, her sister, Dorothy Senft Thumma; and her parents, Melvin C. and Grace Lindeman Senft.
She was born in 1923 in Lancaster County, Pa., the daughter of Melvin C. Senft and Grace M. Lindeman Senft. She graduated from (then) Manor High School in 1940 and for several years (before and after World War II) was a secretary and telephone switchboard operator with the John W. Eshelman & Sons Company.
During the late 1950’s and 1960’s, she was employed as a cashier by the Penn Manor High School, and later was employed as an executive secretary for the Vice President of Administration at Millersville University, until her retirement in 1983. She moved to Vero Beach in 2004.
She had been an active, lifelong member of (now) Grace Community Church in Millersville, Pa. In fact, she had the longest recorded number of years of membership at Grace Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, and she and her husband sang in the church choir for more than 40 years.
Thumma served her community as a volunteer at the (then) Water Street Rescue Mission and as Treasurer of the Millersville Council on Aging. She also served as a Census Enumerator for the 1960 United States Decennial Census.
She had been a member of the American Business Women’s Association, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Ladies Auxiliary Military Order of the Purple Heart, USA; the Order of Eastern Star, and Lioness of the Lions Clubs International.
She was a selfless, caring and giving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Interment will be at Grace Community Church Cemetery in Millersville, Pa., at an undetermined later date.
