Mildred “Millie” Browngardt, 91, of Vero Beach passed away in her home on Sept. 27, 2016.
She is survived by her two daughters, Janet Hunter of Albany, N.Y. and Carol Kolenda of Rocky Hill, Conn.; four grandchildren, Lauren Hunter Comito of Queens, N.Y., Ian Michael Hunter of Troy, N.Y., Lindsey Kolenda of Canton, Mass., and Brian Kolenda of Middletown, Conn.; and one great-grandchild, Tara Comito.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Theodore “Ted” Browngardt.
Browngardt was born on June 25, 1925 in Hempstead, N.Y.
She graduated from New Paltz State College and taught kindergarten before her marriage to Ted Browngardt on June 25, 1949. She and Ted owned dairy farms in the towns of Root and Cobleskill, N.Y. She continued her teaching career at Cobleskill Central School until her retirement in 1983.
Browngardt was an avid gardener and enjoyed many activities including billiards, bocce, swimming, tennis, and bowling. She was also involved in many of the musical events at her Countryside home, for which she played piano and sang. She also enjoyed singing in the choir with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach.
A private memorial service will be held at her grave site in Cobleskill, N.Y., later this fall.
