David Bailey Whipp, 73, of Vero Beach, passed away on Sept. 12, 2016.
He is survived by his children Deborah Whipp (Mike Sposato) of Tallahassee, Shaun (Becky) Whipp of Vero Beach, Brian (Nancy) Whipp of Herndon, Va., and Jennifer (Tim) Wyvratt, of Longwood, Fla.; brother Tim (Francy) MacBain of Wilburn, Ga.; 12 grandchildren who lovingly referred to Dave as “Pops,” Whitney, David and Mickey, Lauren, Alex, Hannah and David, Jack and Aidan, and Sophie, Drew and Matt; great-grandchildren Sebastian and Mayleiah; nephews Andrew (Kim) MacBain and Jason Cooper; great-nephew Landon MacBain and great-niece Lexi MacBain.
He was predeceased by his brother Mac, his parents, his stepfather James MacBain, and his high school sweetheart and wife of 48 years, Sharon.
Whipp was born Oct. 5, 1942, in Lakewood, Ohio, to Bettie and John Whipp.
He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
In 1973, he moved his family from Indianapolis, Ind., to Vero Beach where he and his wife Sharon founded Dave’s Sporting Goods.
He was a member of the “Wednesday Breakfast Club.”
