VERO BEACH — Police are looking for two suspects who, posing as employees from the city water department, robbed a person of an envelope of cash.
At approximately 12:47 p.m. Wednesday, the Vero Beach Police Department responded to 2800 Indian River Blvd. in reference to a residential burglary, according to a press release. Upon arrival, the officers made contact with the victim, who stated that two white males had come to her door about an hour previously.
The two males said that they were with the city water department and were there to check on a leak, according to police. They advised that the victim’s upstairs neighbor had a water leak and they had to check her apartment to make sure there was no damage.
The victim proceeded into her kitchen with one of the subjects, who had her remove items from her kitchen cabinets, according to the report. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the victim, the second male went into her bedroom and removed an envelope with cash from one of the drawers.
Both males then left the residence saying they found some water damage and would be right back, according to police. When the victim discovered her bedroom rummaged through and money missing, she checked with the neighbor upstairs and was told the neighbor did not have a water leak. The victim then confirmed with city utilities that no employees were sent out to that address for service.
The subjects are described as two white males in their 50s, approximately 5-feet-3 to 5-feet-5, 130-140 pounds; one of the subjects was wearing a dark blue uniform shirt with no visible logos or emblems. No vehicle description was obtained at this time.
