Esther Igoe “Sis” Reynolds, 90, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully at home, with her husband by her side, on Sept. 7 2016.
She is survived by her husband of almost 47 years, Charles H. “Chuck” Reynolds Jr.; children Robert E. McHugh of West Trenton, N.J., Elizabeth McHugh Elliott (John Peter Elliott) of Englewood, Fla., Susan Reynolds Wallendahl (Berent A. Wallendahl) of London, and James G. Reynolds (Ann M. Reynolds) of Belmont, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and her sister Virginia I. “Ginger” Tracy of Vero Beach.
Born Esther Marie in 1926 at home in Jersey City, N.J., Reynolds grew up in South Orange, N.J. She attended the School of the Holy Child in Suffern, N.Y., and graduated in 1947 from Rosemont College, Rosemont, Pa.
She married Robert E. McHugh, a World War II Navy veteran, in 1951. Their marriage ended with his death in 1961.
She and Chuck were married in 1969, beginning an adventure of nearly five decades, traveling to all seven continents, cultivating a rich network of family and friends and enjoying beautiful homes in Vero Beach and in Mantoloking, N.J. She worked for several years as a buyer for the Reynolds stores.
Reynolds was one of five sisters who were her closest friends throughout their lives. She had a passion for golf, and was a member of the Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club, the Manasquan River Golf Club and the Bay Head Yacht Club.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 751 Main Ave., Bay Head, NJ, 08742, at 11 a.m. on Sept. 17. A Memorial Mass is planned for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, at St. John of the Cross Chapel, 7590 26th Street, Vero Beach, FL, 32966.
