Thomas James Port, 91, Vero Beach

Thomas James Port, 91, of Vero Beach, passed away on Aug. 30, 2016.

He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate Pamela of Vero Beach; daughters Susan Boda (Daniel) of Columbus, Ohio and Jacqueline McNally (Robert) of Vero Beach; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Port was born May 30, 1925, on Staten Island, N.Y.

He graduated from Peekskill Military Academy, served in the Coast Guard during WWII and was a Sandy Hook Pilot, piloting ships in and out of New York Harbor. He piloted the tall ship “Esmeralda” during the 1976 Op-Sail bicentennial celebration in New York City.

Port loved traveling the world, was a fabulous cook, creating many recipes from his travels. He enjoyed tennis, golf, photography, sailing, swimming and carpentry. He was known for his kind heart, optimism and great wit.

A celebration of life service will take place at Quail Valley River Club, 2345 Highway A1A, Vero Beach, on Sept. 10, 2016, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Lyme Disease Foundation in Tom’s memory.
