Carl Edwin “Big Edd” Remling, 72, of Vero Beach, passed away surrounded by his family just after midnight on Sept. 2, 2016.
He is survived on this earthly world by his high school sweetheart of 55 years, Dottie Remling of Fort Pierce; his eldest son, Carl (Amy) Remling of Gaithersburg, Md., and his youngest son, Stan (Betsy) Remling of Clermont, Fla. He was grandfather to six: Joshua Remling (Stephanie), Clara Randolph (Denzel), Madison and Wesley Remling, David and Preston Rosenbarger; and great-grandfather to five: Blake and Amelia Remling, Lily, Hailey and Elijah Randolph; he is survived by his two sisters, Faye (Joel) Keen of Vero Beach and Jeannette Remling of Arnold, Md.; and his two sisters-in-law, Katherine Jenkins of Irvington, Va., and Annette Carroll of Richmond, Va.; and by countless nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Remling was born in Los Animas, Colo., to Carl Wayne and Clara Remling. He was a master carpenter who could build anything using wood, and built many houses and boats throughout his life. He proudly served our country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army.
He moved to Florida with his wife Dottie in 1969, and worked for Vero Cabinet Shop as his love for fishing grew. Eventually, he fished full time whether in the Indian River or on the surf. Just as his love for fishing grew, so did his family.
Remling was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
He had one of those personalities that if you ever met him, you always remembered him. Whether it was one of his “fish” stories or a joke or just his personality – he left an impact on many and also deep, wide footprints on this earth.
A celebration of his full, rich and happy life will be held at Strunk Funeral home in Vero Beach on Sept. 6 at 3 p.m.
An online guestbook is available at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
