Johanna ‘Joan’ Alexander, Vero Beach

Johanna “Joan” Alexander, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

She is survived by her children Frank, Joan, and William (Tracy), and her sister and brother-in-law Stephanie and Albert Petrulak.

She was preceded in death by her son Edmund.

Born in Canarsie in Brooklyn, N.Y., Alexander married Frank Eugene Alexander and raised a family, including a foster son, in Massapequa Park, Long Island.

She was a longtime resident of Vero Beach, where she performed in musical theater in the 1970s as a member of the Poppel’s People theatrical company. After moving to Daytona Beach, Alexander enjoyed a successful career in real estate sales and management in that city as well as in Sarasota and Orlando.

Alexander always lived within sight of the water, including the Indian and Halifax Rivers, the Gulf of Mexico, and Sawyer Lake in Heathrow, and she took pleasure in reading, music, and films. She shared her life with her beloved cat Lily and with several canaries over the years.
