Carl R. Parsons, 84, Vero Beach

Carl R. Parsons, 84, of Vero Beach and Point Pleasant, W.Va., passed away on Aug. 21, 2016 in Gallopolis Ohio.

He is survived by his daughter Purna L. “Cookie” Parsons of Austin, Texas; two sons, Richie (Suzi) Parsons of Fort Pierce and Johnnie (Chris) Parsons of Charlotte, N.C.; two bonus daughters, Dawn (Raymond) Gandee of Point Pleasant and Gwen Haffelt of Huntington; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Delmar Parsons of Point Pleasant; sister-in-law, Madelyn Parsons of Westerville, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and lots of friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wives, Purna (Snowden) Parsons and Donna Lue (Dewees) Parsons; two brothers and sister-in-law, Denver (Velma) Parsons and Charles Parsons; sister and brother-in-law, Eloise (Lewis) Huling; and sister-in-law, Rachel Parsons.

Parsons was born July 2, 1932, in Gallipolis, a son of the late Joseph Clayton Parsons and Docha (Cottrill) Parsons.

He attended New Hope Bible Baptist Church in Point Pleasant and Cornerstone Baptist Fellowship Church in Sebastian. He retired as director of data processing for General Motors. He was a member of the Tri-State Mountain Dulcimer Society of Huntington, W.Va., Dulcimer-Plus of Vero Beach, and the Roseland Music Guild of Roseland.

A funeral service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Steven Sanderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday prior to the funeral service. Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2016 at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, Ohio.
