‘Big Band Bash’ comes to Vero Beach Aug. 28

VERO BEACH — The Space Coast Symphony JAZZ Orchestra presents a swinging summer Big Band Bash at 3 p.m. on Aug. 28, at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street, 32960.

Under the direction of Stetson University’s Dr. Patrick Hennessey, the JAZZ Orchestra will perform big band favorites featuring music from the 1920’s through the 1970’s.

Central Florida’s finest jazz musicians will perform works by Woody Herman, Count Basie, Henry Mancini, John Williams and other greats. Singing alongside the musicians will be jazz vocalist and music educator, Dr. Lisanne Lyons.

Lyons, who toured worldwide with the U.S. Air Force as a vocalist, is currently director and founder of the jazz vocal program at Florida International University. She will be spotlighted during the second half of the program with classics such as “Our Love is Here to Stay,” “What’s New,” “It’s a Wonderful World” and more.

Tickets are $20 in advance and are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches). Dr. Patrick Hennessey is a musical clinician, adjudicator, educator and performer.

Director of the Stetson University Jazz Ensemble, Hennessey also performs with the Melbourne Municipal Band, the Central Florida Winds and the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra. The concert is free for those aged 18 and under or with a student ID. Tickets at the door are $25. Call toll free to 855-252-7276 for more information.

Hennessey is delighted to be showcasing the talents of veteran jazz vocalist, Lyons, during Big Band Bash.

“Lisanne is an amazingly gifted singer,” said Hennessey. “Her years of experience as a professional jazz vocalist are a perfect match for the authentic and swinging sound of the Space Coast Symphony JAZZ Orchestra. We’re excited to be kicking off our first jazz concert this season with Lisanne. Her way of connecting with the audience goes way beyond her immense talent as a singer.”
