Jane Gee Smith, 74, of Vero Beach, passed away after a prolonged illness on July 13, 2016.
She is survived by her sister Katherine Bowers; sons Donald B Smith, III and Douglas E Smith (Shannon); six grandchildren, Cameron and Kerrigan Smith of Lawrence, Kan., Kaitlin, Lauren, Alex and Ryan Smith of Vero Beach; and one great-granddaughter, Melanie Jane Cameron of Vero Beach.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Donald B Smith, Jr.
Cameron was born in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, to the late Major General and Mrs. Samuel E. Gee.
She graduated from Webster Junior College and worked for the CIA until she married in 1962. She spent her life traveling with her parents and husband who were in the military living in Hawaii, Virginia, Turkey, New York, Washington D.C., Georgia, Germany, Pennsylvania before finally calling Vero Beach her home in 1987.
Cameron was much more than a mother she was also a best friend to her sons. She had a take charge personality with a sense of humor to knock your socks off. She had a passion for collecting shells from all over the world especially Hawaii and Vero Beach with much love and respect for the ocean. She was the backbone of her family who will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.
She was laid to rest at the US Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. with her loving husband on July 29, 2016. Donations in Jane’s memory may be made to Hospice House, Vero Beach.
