Hamish Scott Osborne, Vero Beach

Hamish Scott Osborne, attorney and philanthropist of Vero Beach, passed away.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Christine (Clugage) Osborne; his daughter Jennie (Mike) Burke; and two sons, Andrew (Rachel Elsea) and Matthew (Heather McManus); 12 grandchildren: Margaret, Caroline, Charles and Holly Jean Burke, and Brooks, Calvin, Amelia, Annabelle, Hamish, Scarlett, Christine and Drew Osborne; and his sister Kristin (Osborne) Rohr. He will be missed, loved and cherished eternally by his family and friends.

Osborne was born June 28, 1948, in Bucks County, Engaldn, son of Arthur S. Osborne and Margaret (Scott) Osborne. He graduated from London Central High School in 1966 and from the University of Arizona in 1970. There he met his beloved wife, Christy. They moved to Baltimore, where Osborne began his career as a federal employee. He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1986, where he was a member of the Law Review. He practiced law in Howard County, Maryland until his retirement.

He was a member of Leadership Howard County and was a board member of McDonogh School and the University of Maryland Law School. He provided scholarships for students at both schools. Additionally, he sponsored a Professorship in Advanced Pulmonary Care at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

He served on the Foundation Board of the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. He was also a proud member of the Talbot Country Club, Riomar Country Club, Quail Valley Country Club and the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club. He was especially supportive of veterans and was a board member of the Navy League.

Osborne was the recipient of two lung transplants. The Osborne family thanks the donors of the lungs that saved his life, and invites anyone to consider the gift of organ donorship.

He was especially thankful for the Gift of Life, and for the compassionate care that he received at the University of Maryland Medical Center. His greatest pleasures in life were friends, family and fun. He loved the time that he shared between his hometowns of Vero Beach and Easton, Md.

Treasured pastimes were golfing, boating, reading, history, politics, Baltimore sports teams and talking about all of these things with his friends. His childhood summers were spent on Deep Creek Lake, before the resort area even had electricity. As an adult, he loved sharing Deep Creek with his own young family. Recent summers were spent cruising the Chesapeake and the Atlantic seaboard with his crew of mates.

Osborne loved solving global issues at his weekly weekend “men’s breakfast.” He had a keen love of travel, and hitchhiked across Europe as a teenager. He continued to enjoy a lifetime of travel, roaming across Europe, Africa and Asia even in the last years of his life. He was a card shark as well, and proved to be a worthy opponent in bridge, poker and late night hands of gin. He was eternally young, and loved seeking adventures and laughs with his friends and loved ones.

A 47 year marriage with the love of his life, Christine (Clugage) Osborne, was what he considered both his greatest accomplishment and his most cherished gift.
