Robert D. Smith, of Vero Beach, passed away on July 6, 2016, after a brief illness.
He is survived by his siblings: William K. Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla., John L. Smith of Vero Beach, Lawrence M. Smith of Boca Raton, Gerald E. Smith of Lake Worth, Sally Harrington of Weymouth, Mass., Rosemary Golden of Green Harbor, Mass., Jean Paige of Vero Beach; and dear friends Shirley Wertz and Helen Fazen of Vero Beach; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents William H. and Margaret M. Smith, sisters, Elizabeth Caravano and Patricia Smith, brothers, Richard H. Smith, James F. Smith.
Born March 2, 1939, Smith graduated from Brockton High School, attended Stonehill College and graduated from University of Colorado at Boulder.
He served three years with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.
A master’s level Bridge player, he was a past president and director of the Bridge Center of Vero Beach. He was a former director of many bridge groups and taught many private clients.
Smith was an avid reader of history and philosophy. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and genealogy research of his family.
Burial will be private at the military cemetery of Lake Worth.
