Martha Locke Race, 96, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2016, at Indian River Estates Medical Center in Vero Beach.
She is survived by her son Richard Thornton Race (Suzanne); daughter Nancy Lee Conrad (Paul); granddaughters Dr. Stacey Owen (Chris) of Great Falls, Va., and Kristen Darnell (Clinton) of Milton, Ga.; and 4 great-grandchildren, Andrew Collins, Chase Thornton Darnell, Austin Charles Darnell and Brooke Avery Darnell.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Thornton C. Race in 2008 and her great-grandson, Triston in 2012.
Race was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Somerville, N.J., to Herman Charles Rainalter and Pauline Sherwood. She has lived in Florida, along the treasure Coast for 36 years coming from Abington, Pa., and settling in Vero Beach in the early 2000’s. She was a graduate of the University of Maryland and has been an active member of the KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA National Soririty for 75 years.

Services will be held in Arlington National Cemetery where Martha will be interred with her husband Thornton at a later date.
