Henry M. Bollinger Jr., 92, of Vero Beach, passed away at Brookdale Vero Beach Senior Living facility on July 7, 2016.
He is survived by his sons Henry Martin Bollinger III (Carla), William Hardy Bollinger (Michelle) and daughter, Patricia Bollinger Squire (Ronald); eight grandchildren: Michele, Brian, Tracey, Gregg, Mark, Kristin, Lisa and Jeanette; and 10 great-grand grandchildren.
Bollinger was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Islip, N.Y., to Henry and Cecelia Bollinger. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II aboard the destroyer escort USS Harveston. During that time he met and married the love of his life, Barbara (Bobbi) Hardy who pre-deceased him in February of this year after more than 70 years of marriage.
Bollinger worked for more than 35 years in the transportation system of the State of New York on Long Island, N.Y., before retirement. They enjoyed spending their summers on Long Island’s Great South Bay at their beach homes on Sexton Island first, and then years later, on Captree Island.
He and Bobbi moved to the Vero Beach/Sebastian area 22 years ago to retire in the beautiful Florida sunshine. They enjoyed memberships in several organizations, including the Barefoot Bay Honor NY Club, the VFW, the German Heritage Club, and the Barefoot Bay Square Dance Club, and were able to travel extensively during their last two decades together. Though the affiliations with these clubs, they made many wonderful friendships that they both cherished to the very end.
