Elite Airways awards round trip tickets to two Veterans Council volunteers

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Two round trip tickets to Newark’s Liberty International Airport (donated to the Veterans Council of Indian River County by Elite Airways) were awarded to Hap and Kathy Allston on July 6, 2016, at the General Meeting of The Veterans Council of Indian River County.

The tickets were awarded by Veterans Council President Tony Young in recognition of their dedication to the Veterans Council and to the veterans of Indian River County.

Hap, a Vietnam War Veteran, Sergeant, United States Air Force, is the President of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1038, a member of the Upward American Veterans Committee, a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans organization and a member of the Vietnam Veterans Color Guard.

Kathy, married to Hap, is the director of the Upward American Veterans Committee, a Veterans Council of Indian River County program, which over the past four years has provided financial assistance, counseling and referrals to more than 170 Indian River County Military Veterans. Kathy is the webmaster of the Veterans Council’s website and an associate member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1038.

Colonel Sam Kouns, US Army, retired, and 2nd Vice President of the Veterans Council, recommended Hap and Kathy for the award and stated, “Over the past four years I have witnessed and admired with great respect the multitude of volunteer hours that these two fine Americans have devoted to the care and well being of the Veterans of Indian River County. I categorize their efforts as ‘A Labor of Love.’ “

The Veterans Council of Indian River County is as a non-government, collaborative 503(C)(3) established in 1987 to support veterans and their families. The Council provides emergency financial assistance, transition assistance, resource connection and transportation services to the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach and to appointments locally.
