Master’s Academy takes 8th graders to Boston

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The eighth grade class at Master’s Academy recently returned from a Christian History Tour of Boston and Plymouth, Mass. The purpose of this trip was to enlighten the class about the biblical nature of America’s founding.

While in Massachusetts, the students and chaperones took a lobster boat excursion, visited Plimoth Plantation, walked the Freedom Trail, reenacted the battle at Lexington, and toured the Old North Bridge and the Louisa May Alcott house in Concord.

Stops on the Freedom Trail included the Boston Commons, the Old South Meeting House, and the Boston Tea Party and Ship museum. There, the students took part in a mock debate concerning “Taxation without Representation” and then reenacted the Boston Tea Party aboard a 17th century replica ship.

The students sat in the Old North Church where the lanterns were hung to warn the Patriots that the British were approaching. They visited the location of the Boston Massacre as well as Paul Revere’s house and the Forefather’s National Monument in Plymouth. The five figures on this monument are a blueprint to the success of our nation as our forefathers intended and include: Faith, Morality, Law, Education and Liberty.

The necessity of a nation founded on biblical principles was most apparent when the group visited the Holocaust Memorial and read the stories of those whose lives were impacted by a leader and society that did not honor biblical principles.

Overall, the trip was rich with history and hands-on learning as well as fun as the students were able to bond and celebrate the culmination of middle school.
