Jim ‘Pappy’ Kouns, 81, of Vero Beach, passed away on June 19, 2016. His family was by his side.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Darlene Kouns; sons Jimmie Jr. (Yong Hui), Ronnie (Tracy), Dale, and Donnie (Toni); daughters Connie Johnson (Jerry), and Kim Schlitt (Jimmy); 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, John L. and Margaret Kouns, brother’s Bud and Mickey Kouns and his grandson Chad Kouns.
Kouns was born on Nov. 10, 1934, in Ashland, Kent., and moved to Vero Beach in 1969 with his wife and six children. He was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service for 35 years.
He was known for his love and compassion for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his dedication of coaching Little League baseball, recreation football and girls softball. He enjoyed the camaraderie of playing baseball and softball and continued to do so into his 70’s with the Vero Beach Codgers.
