John A. Chilberg, 90, Vero Beach

John A. Chilberg, 90, of Vero Beach, passed away on June 18, 2016.

He is survived by his wife Shirley; daughter Stephanie Austin (Jeff); son Steve Chilberg, (Brenda); sister Carol Fitch (Jim); grandchildren Matthew, Nicholas, Scott; and great- grandchildren Carrie, Sam, Austin, Evan and Eden.

Born in Scottville, Mich., Chilberg attended Michigan State University and was a lifelong Spartan fan.

He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific theatre. He was an elder and member of First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach. He was also a member of the Vero Beach Choral Society, and the Treasure Coast Chorale. As a lover of music, he liked to sing, play the piano and banjo.

Chilberg had a 30-year career in banking and retired as a vice president of Farm Credit Services headquartered in St. Paul, Minn.

Heloved his wife of 68 years, Shirley, his family, his church, his God and his country. He believed that no man could have been more fortunate than he.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church Music Program 520 Royal Palm Blvd Vero Beach, FL 32960.
