Agnes Maselbas, 87, Vero Beach

Agnes Maselbas, 87, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2016, with her daughter by her side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Wanda and Stephen Nootens of San Diego, Calif.; son Walter Stanley Maselbas of Vero Beach; sisters Marguerite Doucette D’Eon of Saugus, Mass., and Mary Elizabeth Doucette Moore of Durham, N.C.; brother Lennie Doucette of New Bern, N.C.; grandchildren Erica Rose Maselbas, Walter Darin Maselbas, Zachary Allen Nootens, Alexander Michael Nootens and Jacob Christopher Nootens; and great-grandson, R.J.

Maselbas was born on Nov. 28, 1928, in Lynn, Mass., and was raised in Nova Scotia.

She moved to Vero Beach in 1959 with her beloved husband Walter Maselbas. Together they owned and operated the Shake and Steak restaurant on US 1. She worked at Sabal Palm Bowling Alley and then Rosewood Elementary School, where she retired after 25 years.

Maselbas attended St. Helen Catholic Church and loved selling tickets for the Harvest Festival. She was a loving, kind, compassionate woman who loved and treasured her family and friends more than anything. She loved dancing, Polish Polkas, and gardening.

She was a blessing to all who knew her and she will live forever in our hearts.

There will be a visitation held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2016 at St. Helen Catholic Church with burial to follow at Crestlawn Cemetery.
