INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Florida College System Activities Association has named Indian River State College (IRSC) Men’s Swim Team member Craig Emslie as the 2016 FCSAA Athlete of the Year.

Emslie, from Cape Town, South Africa, was an integral part of the IRSC Swimming and Diving Team performance at the 2016 NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships this year where he broke five NJCAA National Records at the March championships hosted by IRSC in Fort Pierce.

During his sophomore year, Emslie’s performances in March now list him as the fastest individual competitor ever to hit the pool in the 50, 100 and 200 Breast events. The 200 record stood for nearly 23 years and was held by a United States Swimming American Record holder.

Additionally, his leadership and talent assisted relays teams in breaking the NJCAA National Record in the 800 Free Relay. He won four individual events and was a member of four winning relays earning him eight national titles at the competition.

His athletic accomplishments at the meet led to his being named the 2016 NJCAA Male Swimmer of the Year and receiving the honor of being recognized as an 8-time NJCAA All-American.

Indian River State College congratulates Craig Emslie on his outstanding achievement being named the FCSAA Athlete of the year and for his contributions to the IRSC Swimming and Diving Team this season.
