School bus accident sends 3 students to hospital

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Three Sebastian River Middle School students were taken to Sebastian River Medical Center to be checked out following a school bus accident Monday morning.

The students were taken as a matter of precaution, according to School District spokesman Flynn Fidgeon. The other 33 students on board were transferred to another bus and were taken to school.

The accident happened at 7:20 a.m. near the bend of County Road 510 in the area of Treasure Coast Elementary School.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the accident, Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Eric Flowers said. He said he did not know what other vehicle was involved or the extent of the incident.

Fidgeon said parents of the three dozen students on the bus were notified about the incident.

The students were riding the bus that serves School Bus Route 11.
