Disaster Kit

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The 2014 hurricane season is about to start, so now is the time to check your Disaster Kit to make sure everything is fresh and ready in the event a storm should hit Indian River County.

In addition to topping off the gas tanks of all your vehicles and getting extra cash out of the ATM, stocking up on the following items is a good idea, so you are not faced with long lines at the store at the last minute:

Important papers (driver’s license, marriage license, birth certificate, deed to property, will, etc.)

Before a storm is within striking range, it is important to become familiar with evacuation routes and locations of shelters near your home. Those who have special medical needs should pre-register for entry into those shelters with the Indian River County Office of Emergency Management at (772) 567-2154.
