Julia Whelan, 74, Sebastian

Julia Whelan, 74, of Sebastian, passed away on May 26, 2016, from complications of multiple myeloma.

She is survived by her husband Dr. James Whelan, siblings Aloysius, Peter and Kate Cranwell and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born on May 25, 1942, Whelan grew up in Union City, N.J. She dedicated her life to the nursing profession. She was a graduate of the Jersey City Medical Center. She earned her B.S. degree from Farleigh Dickinson University and her M.S. in Pediatric nursing from the University of Pittsburgh.

After many years of clinical nursing practice, Whelan was a nursing professor at Ocean County College in New Jersey. After her retirement, she relocated with her husband to Florida and continued to enjoy her sewing, knitting, quilting and swimming activities and volunteered as an English Language tutor for the Literacy Service of Indian River County.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate Julia’s life by gathering for a Funeral Service at Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 S. Fleming Street, Sebastian, on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 11 a.m. Burial at Sebastian Cemetery will immediately follow.
