Allan Gabriel Anderson, 96, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2016, at his residence in Indian River Estates.
He is survived by his three children, Peter Allan Anderson of Vero Beach, John Harold Anderson of Concord, Mass., and Elizabeth Anderson Dailey of Rockport, Maine; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Anderson was born in Hartford, Conn., on April 23, 1920, and spent his early years in West Hartford, Conn., attending local schools and graduating from Hall High in 1938. After high school, he attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Later, he transferred to Columbia University in New York where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1946.
In 1943, Anderson married Shirley Barton also of West Hartford. They had three children together. While he held a number of senior executive positions with a several different companies, he was and had remained until recently, a very active volunteer. He was a very faithful person and was always ready to give of his time, talent and treasure to help those in need.
In 1985, he retired from Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine, where he had been working as Manager of Market Planning and Development since 1978. He embraced retired life by continuing his volunteer efforts, making a number of new friends and enjoying New England life.
In December of 1994, Anderson’s wife Shirley passed away of cancer. Later the following year, Allan married Cynthia Bauer and lived in Vero Beach. Cynthia died in April of 2014 at the age of 100.
He and Cynthia attended the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, where a memorial service for Allan will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 11 a.m.
