All wet: Some Vero roads STILL under water

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A week after record-breaking rains saturated the area, some roads are still under water.

Old Dixie Highway, a mile north of the St. Lucie-Indian River county line, remains flooded.

Ponds of standing water remain around Vero Beach as the ground is still too wet to absorb it.

Vero Beach sustained nearly 12 inches of rainfall over the course of a day, making it one of the wettest in history.

Two schools were affected by the deluge. Vero Beach High School was closed for one day to give crews time to dry out the campus after the water penetrated buildings.

Rosewood Magnet remained dry but the surrounding area was so flooded school officials decided to keep the school closed for a day to allow for the water to recede for safe travels of students.
