He is preceded in death by his wife Doris Sherwood of Vero Beach; and his son Edward Sherwood of Hawthorne, Fla.
Sherwood was born on April 20, 1926, in The Bronx, N.Y. to Joseph and Elizabeth Sherwood. He grew up in the Bronx and from his stories had a great childhood even if it was during the Great Depression.
He was drafted into the US Navy in 1944 and was deployed in the Pacific, and sailed into Tokyo Harbor after the surrender. He remained in the US Navy Reserve until he was called up to fight during the Korean War. He was deployed on the USS St. Paul until the end of the war. After his military service, Sherwood returned to New York and continued his career in the Graphic Arts Industry as a Photo Engraver until his retirement in 1990.
He was married to Doris in 1960, and was bless with two sons, Edward in 1961 and Michael in 1963.
Through his whole life, Sherwood had one constant obsession: fishing. It didn’t matter if it was fresh water in a lake or stream or deep sea in the Atlantic, he loved to fish. He taught his sons and grandchildren the love of fishing. After his retirement, he and Doris moved to Vero Beach where he was able to go fishing every day, and he did.
He passed away peacefully at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach surrounded by his family.
A memorial mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on May 31, 2016 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Irvin’s life. At Irvin’s request there will be no wake so any condolences can be sent to 1800 N Garden Grove Cir, Vero Beach, FL 32968.
