All Clear: Storm Grove Middle reopened

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY —Storm Grove Middle School has been given the all clear following a bomb threat from earlier today.

Classes will resume as scheduled tomorrow and events that were planned for this evening will be held after the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office cleared the school.

The School District received a phoned in threat shortly after 11 a.m. Monday.

“We take these threats very seriously and will do everything in our power to protect the students,” Sheriff Deryl Loar said in a prepared statement released following the School District’s statement. “Out of an abundance of caution we have evacuated the school. We will find out who is behind this threat and bring them to justice.”

As part of the evacuation, students and staff were transported to Sebastian River High School for the remainder of the school day. Students were dismissed from there to parents and guardians listed on their emergency contact information card.

Students who normally rode the bus were dismissed via bus from Sebastian River High School at 2:46 p.m., the regular dismissal time.

Seventh graders who were on a field trip today were routed to Sebastian River High School for dismissal.

Authorities swept the school for hazardous devices and investigated the threat. K-9 units assisted.
