Rev. Norflett Ray Jones, 92, formerly of Vero Beach, passed away on May 17, at the Abbeywood in Elyria, Ohio.
He is survived by his children Larry W. Jones (Lynne) of Carrizo Springs, Texas, and Judi E. Casstevens of Salina, Kan.; grandchildren Chipper Jones (Taylor), Dunn Scoville (Monica), Luke Scoville (Melissa) and Jake Scoville (Ashley); and great-grandchildren Matthew, Trey, Shea, Tristan, Bryson, Siggy, Erik, Noah, Gracie, Lucas, Annie, Jacob, Lauren and Benjamin; his brother Bobby Jones (Barbara) and sister Madeline Clark.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Rosemary (Brown), brothers Horace and Elbert, and sister Frances Jones.
Jones was born on April 21, 1924, in Isle of Wight, Va., and resided in Vero Beach before moving to Elyria, Ohio. He was a 40-plus year resident of Elyria.
After graduation from high school, Rev. Jones took a job in the New Port News Shipyard and soon enlisted in the United States Navy. After his time in the service he began a career as an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God Church, pastoring at Dundalk Assembly of God Church, Baltimore, Md.
He next accepted a call to First Assembly of God and then Central Assembly of God Churches in Vero Beach. Following his time in Vero Beach, Rev. Jones moved to Elyria, Ohio where he worked at the Lorain Shipyard and was Minister of Visitation at Christian Heritage Church, Avon.
Rev. Jones was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Civil Air Patrol, the General Council of the Assemblies of God Church and the Vero Beach Ministerial Association. In addition to being involved with all aspects of church life, Rev. Jones was an avid baseball fan, he enjoyed playing golf and volunteered with Love Inc., proving support to those in need in Lorain County.
Friends may call at the North Olmsted Assembly of God Church, 3874 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted, Monday, May 23, from 9 to 10 a.m. The funeral service will follow at the church at 10 a.m. Pastor Jerry Hunt will officiate. Interment will follow with military honors at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
