Ragnar Steinmo, 87, of Sebastian passed away on May 13, 2016

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Frank Borden); son Glenn Steinmo; grandchildren, Timothy Borden and Kristina Borden; sister Gerd Hansen; many nieces and nephews in Norway; and grand-dogs Buddy, Oreo, and Dorsey.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth who passed away in January of this year. After she passed, his heart broke. She was the love of his life. He is also preceded in death by his daughter Barbara.

Steinmo was born to Karl and Elizabeth Steinmo on Oct. 2, 1928, in Balsfjord, Norway. He came from a large family of nine children and was raised in Tromso, Norway. He later became a chef on a tugboat and traveled the world. He also traveled as an evangelist until he came to America on Jan. 23, 1956, and later became a citizen on June 15, 1961.

He later retired in December 1988. He married Ruth Johnson on March 8, 1958 and they had three children, Sharon, Barbara, and Glenn. They were married for 58 years. He lived in Staten Island, N.Y., until 1985 when they moved to Sebastian to be close to their first grandchild, Timothy.

He very much enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed having the grand-dogs around. He loved to cook and bake bread. He loved having friends and family over for coffee and he loved to prepare meals for them. He also enjoyed traveling back to Norway frequently to visit his family and he fully embraced his Norwegian heritage. He attended Riverside Church in Sebastian and was a part of their local prison ministry for many years.

Services will be held Friday, May 20, 2016, 4 p.m. at Riverside Church, 11205 Roseland Road, Sebastian.

Donations can be made to the Riverside Church Prison Ministry.
