Thomas Anthony Fitzsimmons, 74, Vero Beach

Thomas Anthony Fitzsimmons, 74, of Vero Beach, passed away on May 12, 2016, in VNA Hospice House, under the gentle loving care of “Angels on Earth.” He was surrounded by family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty; sons Tom and Colin, both of Loxahatchee, Fla., their spouses Doreen and Marcy; grandchildren Tommy and Brittany; and great-granddaughter Penelope.

Fitzsimmons was born in Newark, N.J., lived in Matawan, N.J., and was a seasonal resident of Vero Beach. As a teenager in the 50’s, he loved rock n’ roll, playing his alto saxophone, and having a band called The Cavalier’s. They traveled New Jersey and in the summer months played at popular shore locations.

He loved his boys, and in the 70’s he became their Pop Warner and Little League coach. He played all of his players regardless of skill or game situation. He enjoyed golf and looked forward to playing with his many friends in New Jersey and Vero Beach. He was the kind of guy everyone wanted to have a beer with… and did.

Memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to the VNA Hospice Foundation 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A Rock n’ Roll Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held at a later date in Vero Beach. Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. A guest book is available at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
