VERO BEACH — Rosewood Magnet, Vero Beach High School, and the Freshman Learning Center are scheduled to be open Thursday after floods closed the schools Wednesday.
While Rosewood Magnet escaped the torrential Tuesday rains unscathed, the same could not be said for Vero Beach High School. Both schools were closed Wednesday due to concerns about their conditions.
The first floors of buildings 1 and 2, as well as the media center, at Vero Beach High, sustained the most damage from the flooding, according to the School District.
Standing water was experienced in parts of those areas into the evening, with the Media Center being the most affected.
Crews have been at the school since the rains began to penetrate the school Tuesday. Work is underway to dry out the buildings, the walls, the carpet, and the bookshelves in the media center.
Staff is removing debris from the campus while EE&G Company, the District’s environmental technicians, is removing the remaining the moisture.
Also, Rosewood Magnet campus did not experience any water intrusion issues or damage.
