DAR awards grant to Master’s Academy Fife and Drum Corps

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) announced today that the organization will be donating $3,150 in matching funds to Master’s Academy’s Fife & Drum Corps for new uniforms.

Funding for this project was made possible through the sponsorship of the Treasure Coast Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, located in Vero Beach. The matching funds were generously donated by a Master’s Academy Family.

The Master’s Academy Fife & Drum Corps seeks to preserve the American heritage of fifing and drumming by bringing the sight and sound of this tradition to life through live performances at parades, patriotic celebrations, and other community events. The Fife & Drum Corps teaches the importance of music and the role of musicians in our nation’s history.

Master’s Academy Fife & Drum Corps performs annually at Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day celebrations in Vero Beach, The Vero Beach Prayer Breakfast, The Navy Seal Museum Muster, and in many community parades, including the Vero Beach Oceanside Christmas Parade.

“The Treasure Coast Chapter congratulates Masters Academy upon receipt of the Daughters of the American Revolution matching funds for uniforms for their Fife & Drum Corps,” said Ann Waggaman, Regent of the Treasure Coast Chapter. “We look forward to seeing the new uniforms and wish the Corps great success. A big thank you to Masters Academy for their service to our community.”

New uniforms will allow the Fife & Drum Corps to maintain authenticity and preserve the American heritage of fifing and drumming as well as attract new students to participate in the Corps.

Jennifer Royals, the Fife & Drum Corps director, said, “We are thrilled to be able to outfit our Corps with new uniforms that instill self-confidence and reflect the respect we have for our country’s heritage and those who secured our freedoms.” She added, “We are very grateful to the Daughters of the American Revolution for this generous grant.”

The DAR grants program was started in 2010. Funding is awarded to support projects in local communities which promote the organization’s mission areas of historic preservation, education and patriotism. The DAR receives hundreds of grant applications each year, making competition high for the funding through the non-profit organization. Interested groups must be sponsored by a local DAR chapter.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children. Its members are descended from patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With 178,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations.
