INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A handful of Waste Management’s 96 commercial trash customers west of I-95 along State Road 60 are hoping to reduce the number of pick-ups from weekly, as stated in the county’s franchise agreement with the hauler, to bi-weekly.
Most of the hauler’s commercial customers along the SR 60 corridor are clustered in and near the outlet mall, but the businesses in question are considerably farther west. They contacted County Commissioner Wesley Davis for help in having the collection frequency reduced, hoping it would reduce their collection cost, as well.
Waste Management had indicated that a variance from the county would be required in order to make such a modification and that, if the request were to receive approval, the cost would not change.
Davis brought the modification request before the Board May 3, and Commission Chairman Bob Solari asked staff to gather more detailed data so the Board can make a determination without breaking the franchise agreement.
