Sebastian Police Department supports seventh graders in Riverview Park clean-up

SEBASTIAN — The Sebastian Police Department and the Sebastian Charter Junior High School work closely together in a program entitled G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education And Training).

Recently, seventh grade students have been learning about confidence in themselves and their community in order to avoid falling prey to the gang lifestyle. The students were challenged with a project called, “How to make my community a GREAT place.”

On May 18, it will be the pleasure of the Sebastian Police Department to support the Sebastian Charter Junior High seventh grade students at the Riverview Park, 600 US 1, Sebastian, in conducting a “clean-up.”

The students will be transported via bus from the school to the park at 9 a.m. and will be taken back to the school at 11 a.m. Officer Ashley Penn would like for these students to see the importance of making their community a better place.

The students will be cleaning up the playground and picking up trash. Keep Indian River Beautiful will be supplying the trash pick-up materials and Publix will be providing water to the students as they clean up the community.
