McKee Botanical Garden to host Waterlily Photography Class May 21

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — McKee Botanical Garden will host a Waterlily Photography Class just in time for its waterlily photo contest in June. The class is scheduled for Saturday, May 21 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

“Photographing Waterlilies” will provide helpful tips and instruct attendees on how to give photos a more professional look. Learn how to apply concepts such as framing, texture, pattern, light and depth to get photos looking picture-perfect. The class includes an instructional lesson, a guided photo shoot at McKee Botanical Garden and a critique session with the chance to review photos.

This class is great for beginners or intermediate photographers. Participants should be comfortable with their camera’s basic functions before taking this class. Bring a camera, manual, an empty memory card and extra batteries.

Pat Rice of JPR Images will be instructing this class. His beautiful photos of McKee Botanical Garden are often featured in brochures and marketing materials. In addition to his professional photography business, Rice has been a member of the Indian River Photo Club since 2004, served as the club’s president in 2008 and previously held positions as second and first Vice President. His passion is not only using his camera, but also teaching others how to use theirs.

The cost for this class is $30 for McKee members and $35 for non-members. Advanced registration is required. To register, please call (772) 794-0601.

The Garden is currently accepting photo submissions for the contest through Tuesday, June 14. Photos must be of waterlilies photographed at McKee in 2015 or 2016 with film or digital camera.
