Clifford Maxwell Loar Jr., 71, Vero Beach

Clifford Maxwell Loar Jr., 71, of Fort Pierce, with family in Vero Beach, passed away on April 28, 2016, at Consulate Health Care of Vero Beach.

He is survived by his wife Susan; three sons, Clifford Maxwell Loar III of Vero Beach, Victor Loar (Becky) of Jacksonville, and Thad Loar of Fort Pierce; two grandchildren, Charlotte and Nathaniel Loar; his sisters Judy Suthard of Vero Beach, Billie Atamer of Vero Beach, Ann Adkins of Ravenswood, W.Va., Eleanor Nickell of Kenova, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Elizabeth, and his sister’s Maxine Hastings and Sandy Caudill.

Loar was born Nov. 8, 1944 in Kenova W.Va., to Clifford Maxwell Loar Sr. and Elizabeth Greenslait Loar. He graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School in 1962. In November 1962, he married his high school sweetheart and love if his life Susan Fay Napier in Greenup, Kent.

He worked most of his life in the furniture business, starting in his father’s business as a youth. He enjoyed music and played in many bands in his youth and served as the interim choir director for First Covenant Church of Vero Beach in the early 1980’s.

Loar enjoyed tinkering in the garage and according to his sons, bringing old televisions, video recorders and one possessed Lawn Boy mower back from the dead many times than should be allowed. It was common for the kids of the neighborhood to bring him their broken toys and gadgets and somehow he found a way to bring them back. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
