Hope E. Jacobs, 93, of Vero Beach, passed away on April 28, 2016.
He is survived by her son Byron Jacobs (Barbara) of Ladonia, Texas; daughter Christina Collins of Vero Beach; grandchildren Sarah Lepe (Juan) of Kansas City and Christopher Jacobs (Kairit) of Tallinn, Estonia; brother Byron (Julia) Elsebough of Sebastian; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband and her youngest son Jonathan, her sister Joyce (Sexton) and her brothers Walter and Charles Elsebough.
Jacobs was a longtime resident of Vero Beach and formerly of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. She was happily married to George (Jake) Jacobs for 50 years.
Before relocating to Vero Beach in 1978, she was an active member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. After relocating to Vero Beach, she and her husband Jake became active members of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she served in many capacities.
She was affectionately referred to as “Hat Lady Hope” because she always wore one of her many hats whenever she went out. She was deeply loved and appreciated by members of her family, her church and the community where she resided. She was often referred to as an elegant, classy lady, always with a kind word and understanding of all. An avid reader, she enjoyed her book club friends and for many years was a regular mahjong player.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11 a.m., May 5, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Vero Beach.
