Thomas Otto Mizzles, 65, Vero Beach

Thomas Otto Mizzles, 65, of Vero Beach, passed away on April 16, 2016.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carolann Mizzles; his two daughters Cheryl Ann Carradini of Vero Beach and Cynthia Ann Mizzles of Vero Beach; his four grandchildren, Michael Francis Diaz of Vero Beach, Bryan Thomas-Joseph Diaz of Toms River, N.J., Nicholas Joseph Waller of Vero Beach, and Derek Joseph Mizzles of Vero Beach; his great-granddaughter Aubrielle Diaz; five siblings, Rosie Griggs of Hurley, of New Mexico, Pattie Gregg of Dallas, Texas, James Mizzles of Tyler, Texas, Susan Bussey of Glen Rose, Texas, Janice Matthews of Evans, Ga.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Julia Loren Waller.

Mizzles was born in Grants Pass, Ore., on Sept. 29, 1950 to David Mizzles and Elizabeth (Peach) Mizzles. He was married to Carolann (Viola) Mizzles May 7, 1972.

He joined the US Army in 1968. He served his country until he was honorably discharged as an SP5 to the US Army Reserve. He served an additional three years in the Reserves as he transitioned his technical skills to a technical civilian career.

Mizzles was a multi-skilled systems technician in the communications industry. He worked for New Jersey Bell in multiple capacities until the company was purchased by Verizon. He then retired from Verizon and went on to further his technical career with Bellsouth and AT&T Uverse as a wire technician.

He volunteered his time to the communities in which he lived. He was a volunteer firefighter and fire commissioner in Jackson Township, N.J., Fire District No. 3, Station 1 from 1973 through 1987. He volunteered his time as an Auxiliary Police Officer in Toms River, N.J. from 1990 through 2001. He was a member of the American Legion for many years. He was also an avid HAM radio operator and a Chief Commercial Radio Operator Examiner with the National Radio Examiners division of the W5YI Group since 1994. He served as a volunteer examiner for the American Radio Relay League.
