INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The body of a woman who was shot to death in 1982 will be dug up this week as investigators with the Sheriff’s Office attempt to find new clues that would identify her and lead them to her killer.
“We hope to give closure in this case,” said Sheriff Deryl Loar. “Somebody out there is missing a mother, a wife, a family member. We want to identify this woman and bring her killer to justice after all these years.”
The woman is known only as Jane Doe and was buried in the Winter Beach Cemetery.
She was found shot to death in 1982, five miles west of Interstate 95 in West Vero Beach.
Investigators hope to recover her skull and use enhanced facial reconstruction techniques that had not been available until now.
