Driver ID’d in fatal SR 60 semitrailer crash

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The driver who died in Friday morning’s crash that involved two semitrailers has been identified.

Corey Johnson, 42, of Orlando was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Two others were in another semitrailer. Oliver Tejada, 44, and his passenger, Kevin Tejada, 22, both of Lakeland, sustained no injuries.

The crash closed all eastbound and westbound lanes of State Road 60 at County Road 512 earlier this morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Tejada was traveling east on State Road 60 in the outside lane, approaching Johnson, who was slowing down in the same lane to make a right turn into the driveway of a sod business.

Tejada failed to slow down in response to Johnson’s attempt to turn and was unable to brake in time, the FHP report states.

Tejada’s semitrailer collided with the rear of Johnson’s semitrailer. The collision caused Tejada’s vehicle to travel onto the south shoulder facing southeast and Johnson’s vehicle to cross the center grass median into westbound lanes of State Road 60 and into the tree line.

Johnson’s semitrailer then struck a tree before coming to final rest in some shrubs, facing north.

According to FHP, it was unknown if Johnson was wearing a seatbelt. Tejada and his passenger were both wearing seatbelts.
